Wiki in need of an overhaul
31Aug10
The title says it all. Basically, I feel the wiki could use a great deal of work in putting into shape. For example, updating the WML parts and putting the WML reference upfront, updates and the strategy sections (which I and a couple people are working on already), updates on links and support stuff, and general maintenance.
Now since school is starting, I obviously will not have the time to work on them all. Of course I’m slowly progressing on the strategy bits, but the entire wiki I believe needs an overhaul. Also, I don’t believe in my WML yet, so I’m definitely not up for updating the WML section.
Well, I don’t know, really. Thus is just a hope of mine that I wish will be fulfilled one day

This is very true, and I’ve been wanting this to be done for *years* already. I had my hopes high when Aethaeryn started doing wiki maintenance (hence his “WikiWizzzz” rank, which I feel tempted to drop now), but although there’s been some neat categorization and cleanup, the WML reference is still a complete mess.
One of the problems with it is that it’s very hard to find the documentation for a specific WML tag unless you click on the sidebar entry and then use CTRL+F or your browser’s equivalent function, to find the tag name in the page contents. Other WML topics are only reachable from barely-visible inline links, and the main ReferenceWML index.
Developers also hardly maintain the WML sidebar, so some tags get lost within the docs (or sometimes don’t get added to the wiki at all), making things even worse for content authors.
Sadly, this is unlikely to change in the short term until someone decides to maintain the wiki *for real*, instead of doing part-time fiddling like Aeth.
Haha…I would definitely try to help update it if I had time. I like doing maintenance work, and it’ll make me feel like I’m actually contributing something to the project. But then again, I don’t think my skills are up-to-par and neither the reputation of my behavior. Heh…I guess I’ll save that thought for later.
